The HEX SLOTTED CASTLE NUT is a mechanical locking fastener designed for rotating shafts and dynamic load assemblies, relying on cotter pins inserted through the axial slots and shaft holes to achieve permanent anti-loosening locking. It features a standard hexagonal outer body with evenly spaced axial slotted notches around the top circumference, which align with pre-drilled pin holes on matching bolts or axles for safety pin installation.
Manufactured from premium Grade 4.8 or 8.8 carbon steel via hot forging, this castle nut boasts high tensile strength and impact resistance to withstand heavy dynamic loads and vibration. The surface retains raw black forged finish without electroplating, allowing customers to customize subsequent surface treatments such as zinc plating, black oxide or hot-dip galvanizing to meet different anti-corrosion and appearance requirements.
The evenly distributed slotted notches enable precise alignment with cotter pin holes on shafts. After tightening to the specified torque, a cotter pin is passed through the aligned slots and shaft hole then bent to lock the nut in position, completely eliminating the risk of rotational loosening caused by long-term vibration, shock and alternating loads. The standard hex profile works with regular spanners and sockets for easy torque control during installation, and precisely tapped internal threads fit standard metric bolts smoothly for uniform clamping force.
